Years later, Deokhye (Son Ye Jin) reencounters her childhood sweetheart Jang Han (Park Hae Il), who is an officer in the Japanese army as well as an independence activist. He devises a secret plan to help Deokhye and her brother Crown Prince Yi Eun (Park Soo Young) to escape to Shanghai, but Taek Soo discovers the scheme.
