    Hailed as the Korean version of The Wolf of Wall Street, the political crime thriller The King is helmed by The Face Reader director Han Jae Rim. Eight years after A Frozen Flower, Jo In Sung makes his silver-screen comeback as a power-hungry prosecutor striving for position in a corrupt legal world that is reigned over by a powerful prosecutor played by Jung Woo Sung (Asura: The City of Madness). Kim So Jin (New Trial) won Best Supporting Actress at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards and the 54th Daejong Awards, while Ryu Jun Yeol (One Way Trip) was named Best New Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards. The star-studded blockbuster also co-stars Kim Ah Joong (Steal My Heart), former After School member Lee Joo Yeon (Sorry, I Love You, Thank You), Kim Eui Sung (Train to Busan), Park Jung Min (Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet), Jung Eun Chae (Nobody's Daughter Haewon) and Bae Sung Woo who won Best Supporting Actor at the Daejong Awards.

    Park Tae Soo (Jo In Sung) was a trouble-making thug when he was young. After watching his father get humiliated by prosecutors, he realizes the importance of power and studies hard to become a prosecutor himself. While investigating a sexual assault case, he is brought to Han Kang Sik (Jung Woo Sung), the leader of a clique of powerful prosecutors. Tae Soo pursues power and wealth with the help of his gangster friend Choi Doo Il (Ryu Jun Yeol) and fellow prosecutor Yang Dong Chul (Bae Sung Woo). He even marries rich TV anchor Lim Sang Hee (Kim Ah Joong) to get closer to the inner circle. However, his world is turned upside down when he finds himself to be just another pawn in the game of power politics.
